In the blur of working and parenting, we haven’t been updating this site enough but a quick check in is in order, but the quick and easy is that Arthur is awesome.
He’s begun standing in the last month and is now slowly cruising (a fun game is to put the iphone on one side of the couch, let him cruise over and play with it, then move it to the opposite side, and watch him cruise there. He enjoys this very much). He’s still preverbal in the sense that everything is mamamamamama be it Anna, Milo, or food, but he knows ah-plo-dee is french for clap, which he will do, his name, and “give me” which repeated a few times earns you whatever he’s holding.
He likes yogurt and can eat some adult food with us, but, and this is weird to be typing as I was a pretty strict vegan for about six years, his favorite food is clearly scrambled eggs and my favorite activity is now cooking him a scrambled egg and watching him delightedly eat it. That is, I delightedly watch, he delightedly eats. He likes to feed himself for the most part and is just beginning to realize the sippy cup, though he sometimes holds it a little low to get the water.
He’s beginning to have object permanence, and realize that us hiding an object under the covers, like our phone, doesn’t mean it has disappeared, but he still gets upset when one of us, usually Anna, is leaving or goes away from him.
The bath is fun, going to bed is not, he’s been pretty healthy, and has a lot of personality - his expressions are easy to project nuanced thoughts on. Overall, Arthur is awesome. And we just love him.

In the coming day, or week, or month, Arthur will begin to crawl forward, later to stand up and then walk and then run around and cause all sorts of new trouble that’ll make us, like every parent before us, question the pros and cons of mobility, but let it be known that, before all of that, our little one started out as a backwards crawler. He’s figured out, like so many of us, how to scramble away from the object of his desire. We, of course, dutifully dote.

Also, distant family and friends as well as future historians, Arthur is the cutest baby on god’s green earth.
